Movilex strengthens its operational capacity in the northeast of the peninsula after completing one year of activity in Catalonia

The Movilex Barcelona plant, located in the municipality of El Pont de Vilomara i Rocafort, contributes alongside the group’s other plants to the management of nearly 70,000 tons of waste electrical and electronic equipment managed during 2025, a 27% increase over the previous year
  • Its launch improves logistical efficiency and full waste traceability, bringing treatment closer to the client and strengthening the circular economy model in Catalonia
  • Furthermore, it contributes to the economic development of the municipality and the generation of quality employment through the creation of 37 jobs

Movilex, a company specializing in the management, treatment, and recovery of waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE), has completed its first year of activity at the Movilex Barcelona treatment plant, located in El Pont de Vilomara i Rocafort (Barcelona). This corporate milestone has allowed the company to strengthen, at a group level, its operational capacity in the northeast of the peninsula, improving customer proximity, logistical efficiency, and the control of waste traceability from its origin to its final treatment.

Thus, Movilex Barcelona has contributed to the group-level management—the company has six treatment plants in Spain and Portugal—of nearly 70,000 tons of waste electrical and electronic equipment, representing a 27% increase compared to the previous year and a demonstration of its industrial capacity to respond to the growing demands of the circular economy.

The opening and launch of Movilex Barcelona has generated 37 jobs, 12 of them direct and 25 indirect, thereby contributing to the economic development of El Pont de Vilomara i Rocafort and the generation of quality employment both in the municipality and its surrounding area.

The plant’s activity reinforces Movilex’s commitment to Catalonia as a strategic territory within its growth plan in Spain, being a region that stands out for its firm commitment to industrial waste recovery. In fact, nearly 80% of the waste generated in the community is destined for recovery processes—according to sector statistics—in a context where millions of tons are produced annually.

In this scenario, Movilex’s presence helps to promote a circular economy model based on the recovery of materials at the end of their useful life and their reincorporation into the production chain, reducing the need to extract new raw materials and favoring energy and economic savings.

“This first year demonstrates that it is possible to combine operational efficiency, local employment, and the recovery of strategic materials under a solid and traceable industrial model,” noted Luis García-Torremocha, CEO of Movilex. “Our goal is to continue consolidating our presence in Catalonia, generating a positive impact on local employment and contributing to a more sustainable and efficient industrial model.”

This growth is supported by its own collaborative logistics network in Catalonia, with a fleet of trucks authorized for the transport of hazardous and non-hazardous waste, agreements with carriers that allow for national coverage, and a structure of temporary storage centers that guarantees operational efficiency and full traceability throughout the process.

At the same time, the Barcelona plant is part of the Movilex industrial network, composed of six treatment centers in Spain and Portugal: Movilex Barcelona (El Pont de Vilomara i Rocafort), Movilex Badajoz (Lobón), Movilex Valencia (Sollana), Movilex Alicante, Movilex Burgos (Miranda de Ebro), and Movilex Porto (Pedorino). This structure allows the company to operate with national coverage and a strategic presence in the main hubs for generating technological waste. In this context, Catalonia—along with Madrid and Andalusia—ranks among the autonomous communities with the highest volume of waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) treatment, with more than 13,700 tons treated, according to sector data.

Movilex and its positive impact on the local economy

The Movilex industrial model is closely linked to the economic and social development of the territories where it is established. Its treatment plants are mostly located in small and medium-sized municipalities, where industrial activity linked to technological waste management acts as a driver for employment and the strengthening of the local productive fabric.

This is the case for the Movilex Barcelona plant, located in El Pont de Vilomara i Rocafort, a municipality with around 4,000 inhabitants, which generates 12 direct jobs. Another example is Movilex Badajoz, located in the town of Lobón, where the plant employs 54 people in a municipality of 2,734 inhabitants. Similarly, Movilex Valencia, in Sollana with just over 5,000 inhabitants, has 37 Movilex workers.

This approach allows the circular economy to become a real lever for quality local employment, driving new professional skills and facilitating light reindustrialization processes without the need for large infrastructure or complex implementations.
